Green Lantern Corps

Green Lantern Corps

History

About ten billion years ago, a humanoid species came into being on the planet Malthus. After five billion years they evolved to the point where they possessed great power and were virtually immortal. The adults of this race were preoccupied with an eternal study of the universe’s nature, and they expanded their study in every area but one; an ancient warning forbid them from investigating their own origins. Scientist Krona defied this warning, building a machine to see through time to the beginning of all things. The terrible consequences of his actions were the creation of the Anti-Matter Universe, as well as unleashing vast and unstoppable evil. Krona was punished, and the immortals dedicated themselves to creating a force of good to combat the evil Krona had unleashed. They relocated to the planet Oa, at the center of the universe, and created the Manhunters as their agents. The Manhunters proved to be a failure, rebelling and becoming power hungry. In response the Oans stripped away most of their powers and exiled them.

Following the rebellion of the Manhunters and the subsequent split of Oan society, the Guardians of the Universe explored other options to further their agenda for the cosmos. Intrigued by the success of the Halla's, a group of living agents working for the Guardians, the elders of Oa decided a new force for justice should be created. The perils in the vast reaches of space required a formidable weapon, so the Guardians created the power ring to aid their warriors in their quest against evil. As the Green Lantern Corps grew in influence and universe-wide power, the 36 remaining Oans devoted themselves to providing them with the power and wisdom needed in battling evil.

Green Lantern Corps

Though the Guardians of the Universe were virtually immortal, their agents, the members of the Green Lantern Corps, were not. In the three billion year history of the Corps, literally millions of Green Lanterns gave their lives in the line of duty.

The Oans sought to honor their champions by following their ancient Maltusian burial customs. The Green Lanterns were entombed in one vast crypt. Each Green Lantern was placed in a crystalline sarcophagus, apparently preserved for all time.

The Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps was buried deep beneath the main Citadel and extended outward under the Oan sands. As part of the Maltusian customs, the heroes were close to the quarters of the living so the souls of the living and the dead could commune.

Many honored Green Lanterns were placed here, including Tomar-Re of Xudar, Abin Sur of Ungara, Arkkis Chummuck of Toomey IV, and Ahtier of Glazzonio. In Abin Sur's case, it appears his body was retrieved from Earth, where he had been buried by Hal Jordan.

Even Sinestro was entombed in the Crypts. He was executed by the Green Lantern Corps and his spirit inhabited the Central Power Battery. His sarcophagus was by itself, separated from the rest of the Corps.

Becomming a Green Lantern

Basic Concepts

What It Takes To Be A Green Lantern

New Green Lanterns are usually inducted into the Corps by one of two methods:

Necessary Characteristics

There are three characteristics that any candidate must possess in order to be considered for membership in the Green Lantern Corps:

Probationary Period

New Green Lanterns are placed on a brief period of probation, during which they are closely scrutinized by the Guardians. During this time he is unaware of the Guardians existence and the Corps, after he proves his worthiness he will be summoned to Oa and everything revealed.

Responsibilities

As soon as you accept the Power Ring, a Green Lantern pledges to carry out certain responsibilities enumerated below:

  1. Protection of Life and Liberty within assigned sector: Your first and foremost duty is to protect the inhabitants and territory of your space sector. This includes combating evil wherever and whenever it is encountered, and to do everything within ones power to protect the inhabitants of the sector from natural disasters and cataclysms.
  2. Follow the Orders of the Guardians without question: Green Lanterns are sworn to follow the orders of the Guardians without hesitation. Lanterns must learn the Guardians always have a valid reason for their instructions.
  3. Non-Interference: A Green Lantern must never perform any action that will alter a world's culture or political makeup. He must also never perform any action that is against the collective will of its inhabitants.
  4. Act within local Laws and subject oneself to local Authority: While on inhabited territory, the Lantern must make every effort to conduct himself in accordance with the local laws. He must also submit to local authorities, within reason.
  5. Proven Peril Clause: A Lantern must not take action against anyone or anything until the objet or creature in question is proven to present a danger to life or liberty.
  6. Refusal to Act for Personal Gain: A Lantern must never use the powers at their disposal for personal gain. They can also not accept any rewards for services rendered.
  7. Cooperation with Fellows: A Lanter is obligated to assist and show respect for his fellow Lanterns.
  8. Respect for Life: A Lantern must never willingly take the life of another living creature, unless it is the only solution to a problem. They are also only allowed to use reasonable force in combatting a menace.
  9. Combat the Greatest Danger: A Lantern must always give top priority to the greatest danger present within the sector.
  10. Preservation of Honor: A Lantern must always attempt to maintain the honor of the Corps, and should refrain from dishonesty and the use of treachery.

*Note that the Lanterns are trusted to maintain this code. The Guardians have enough confidence in them however to give the Lantern the option of violating any of the above principals if it is warranted in their best judgment. If any principal is violated, be prepared to defend the action before the Guardians.

Discipline

Upon violation of any principal, a Lantern may be summoned to Oa for trial. The charges would be read and an explanation be asked for. If the actions could be explained the matter was forgotten, therwise he would be disciplined. The penalty was usually one of the following:

  1. Removal from the Corps: Before taking such an action, the Guardians would consider the past service record, which may influence them to settle on a lesser form of punishment. This punishment would also be incurred if a Lantern began to fail to meet the three basic requirements for Corps membership.
  2. Probation: If during the probation period the Lantern took any action resembling an offense, the Guardians would remove him from the Corps.
  3. Personal Supervision: Sometimes the Lantern would be ordered to move to Oa for a time so the Guardians could instruct and supervise him themselves.
  4. Exile: If the Guardians determined that personal obligations were interfering with his duties they would often exile the offender from his homeworld for a period of one year.
  5. Ritual of Endurance: In extreme cases where guilt or innocence could not be determined, or two or more Lanterns disagreed over a comrades guilt, the Guardians would subject him to the Ritual of Endurance. A Lantern must make it through a small pocket of the anti-matter universe unaided. Failure often brought death.

The Oath

The Green Lantern Oath was used before Kyle came around so for a long time he did not use it, but he has picked it along the way. It was said each and every time the ring was charged against the GL's battery. Kind of like the Pledge of Allegiance, it reminds the GL of his/her duty. The oath is:

"In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil's might,
beware my power... Green Lantern's light!"

Rewards

The only reward is a hearty thanks and the satisfaction of a job well done. The only special honor was to be appointed to the Guardians own personal guard. The Honor Guard consists of one or more Lanterns who remain on Oa to council the masters.

Contact With The Guardians

The Guardians kept constant contact with the members of the Corps, advising and directing them. The Guardians would contact a sector's Lantern and dispatch him to a troubled area. They communicated through the Power Battery. There is an emergency signalling device that allowed them to instantly send an S.O.S to the entire Corps.

The Guardians could also summon a Lantern's energy twin to Oa. The energy twin is a living creature's life force. While it is in transit, the physical form lies motionless. Any information passed to the twin is passed to the body when it comes back.

In rare instances the Guardians would summon the physical form of the Lantern. Usually for regular meetings of the Corps. About once a year all Lanterns were expected to attend.

Power Rings

The product of an alien super science, the fabled power ring has long been wielded by the heroic members of the Green Lantern Corps. Though the full story of its creation may never be known, observations can be made from the recorded experiences of those who wielded the emerald ring. From those examples, conclusions can be drawn regarding the ring's miraculous abilities.

Power rings are said to be made of "Oaite," a compound found on Oa. Other compounds have been taken from worlds throughout the cosmos, at least five power rings were comprised of ore mined on Titan, a moon of Jupiter. The power itself, like all cosmic power, is an aspect of The Source. Any being with control over the Source can also control the ring's energies.

Each member of the Corps is granted a ring with which to protect his, her, or its assigned sector. A Green Lantern Power Ring, considered by some to be one of the most powerful weapons in the known universe, has the ability to affect and use fundamental forces of the known universe, including electromagnetic energies such as gravity, radiation, heat, light, and powerful blasts of concussive force. The ring is powered by the wearer's willpower. The stronger the will, the more powerful the ring. And the ring can do anything. It can create objects made of energy that can do anything the ring-bearer wants. It can make a motorcycle to ride on. It can make a television. It can give the GL a battle suit to use in a fight. If you know the atomic structure of something, it can be made to that detail - from a glass of water to a chunk of Kryptonite. It protects the GL and allows the ring-bearer to fly in any atmosphere, in space, or underwater, without needing an air supply. And if the GL wanted to, he could split atoms with it. There really is no limit to what the ring cannot do that the GL cannot imagine.

The GL ring is also capable of imparting the following extra abilities:

Limitations

Death and Succession

Numbered in order of decreasing likelihood, there are four thousand seven hundred sixty-five possible programmed responses for a power ring in the possession of a Green Lantern whose death is imminent. Most involve sudden loss in a combat situation. Some involve other members of the Corps. More than two thousand of them entail the direct involvement of the Guardians and several hundred are in the event of the demise of the Guardians and the Corps
themselves.

Power Battery

 Power Battery
The individual personal power batteries are conduits to the Central Power Battery, and the power ring is a mind-keyed transmitter of that power. A Power Battery is given to each Green Lantern so that their ring can be recharged when needed. Each battery is a piece of the Oan Central Power Battery and can tap into it's vast energy sources. Without it, the ring is useless.

Emotional Spectrum

Is an energy field that is fueled by the emotions of all sentient beings. Inadvertently, sentient beings channeled and created seven unique forms of energy based on their emotions, with a certain color unique to the emotion. The Maltusians, the oldest known race in existence, were the first to discover and harness this field. Krona was known to had once wielded the entire power of the Emotional Spectrum for a moment though it was believed since he was an immortal he was capable of such a feat. The successor races eventually chose to harness the emotions of several different colors. They also discovered that the farther one is away from the center of The Spectrum, the more control the energy has on the wielder. According to a prophecy in the Book of Oa, the seven colors of the emotional spectrum would be harnessed by seven different Lantern Corps, which would go to war with each other in a conflict called the War of Light.

White/Life
The White Light of Life is where the Emotional Spectrum originated. According to Indigo-1 and the Guardians of the Universe, in the beginning the universe was absolute darkness. At an unspecified point in history, the white light was introduced by an entity or entities unknown, and for 700 years the universe was nothing but a blinding white light. The darkness however, fought back against the light, eventually dividing it into the 7 Colors of the spectrum that exists today. Those who wield the white light have the capability to resurrect the dead, teleport, and can create constructs that can potentially last longer than those cast by other lights. The white energy comes from all living things, and all living things from it. So far, ring wielders seem to have no control over the ring itself, the rings doing the bidding of the Life Entity. Unlike other rings, which must be charged from a battery (with the exception of black), white rings are automatically charged whenever the wielder performs actions that constitute "living".

Red/Rage
Red is one of the energies far from the center, and represents the emotion of rage/anger. A person who has felt great rage is able to tap into the red light. However, controlling the red light also renders the heart useless and spoils the blood of the wielder. In addition, the red light has the most profound effect on the mind of the wielder of all the lights, and renders most users to nothing more or less than a rabid animal. The red light was first harnessed by Atrocitus of the Five Inversions, using blood rituals to form Red Power Rings and Batteries to be used by his Red Lantern Corps.

Orange/Avarice
Orange is another energy away from the center, and represents greed, capable of being harnessed by those whose greed knows no bounds. The Controllers, a Maltusian offshoot desiring to create an orderly universe by controlling it, sought the orange light to form their own Corps. However, they awoke Agent Orange. Because they were Maltusians, Agent Orange considered this a breach of the treaty he made with the Guardians and launched an attack on the universe. Those controlling the Orange Light are capable of stealing the identities of people they kill, and use them to create energy constructs subservient to the wielder.

Yellow/Fear
Yellow is a color close to the center, and represents the emotion of fear. A being capable of instilling great fear in others is capable of wielding this power. The yellow light was finally harnessed by Sinestro of Korugar and the Anti-Monitor of Qward to form the Sinestro Corps, an organization that would bring order to the universe by instilling those who would defy authority with fear.

Green/Willpower
Green is the color in the center of the spectrum, and represents willpower. This color has the least amount of influence on the wielder, and can only be controlled by one who has an indomitable will that can overcome great fear. The Oans harnessed this energy. Following the departure of the Controllers, those who remained on Oa became the Guardians of the Universe, and used the green light as the power source for the Green Lantern Corps, an organization that would battle evil whenever and wherever it rose to threaten the universe.

Blue/Hope
Blue is a color close to the center, and represents the emotion of hope. The blue light is capable of being wielded by a being who can bring hope for the future to others. The blue light is the most powerful of the spectrum, but it is also the most difficult to wield and understand. The exiled Guardians Ganthet and Sayd were the first to harness the blue light, forming the Blue Lantern Corps, a force which would assist the Green Lantern Corps in its coming trials during the War of Light. Despite being the most powerful color, it may only function to its fullest effect in the proximity of the Green light (hope on its own is hollow, requiring will to make it reality). The blue light is capable of draining the yellow light, suppressing the orange and red, and empowering the green.

Indigo/Compassion
Indigo is a color farther from the center, and represents the emotion of compassion. The Indigo light can be wielded by one with great compassion for other beings, used to heal the sick and wounded. However, compassion can also be forced upon a person, turning them into a slave that feels only the indigo emotion. The users of this light are capable of absorbing and utilizing the lights of other Corps as they would their own, and even to temporarily become one of that Corps. The Indigo Tribe has harnessed this power, most against their will.

Violet/Love
Violet is the other color furthest from the center, and represents the emotion of love. Those who are capable of great love, who have lost their loves, or been rejected are capable of wielding the violet light. The Zamarons believed that the male Malthusans' rejection of emotion was tantamount to blasphemy, and left Oa. Traveling across the universe, they found two crystallized corpses of a male and female embracing each other. Between them was a crystal known as the Star Sapphire, an object filled with the violet light. Unfortunately, the Zamarons interpreted the best way to spread love throughout the universe and destroy hate and fear was to use the Star Sapphires to crystallize whole worlds and trap their inhabitants. Worse, the Star Sapphire was a parasite that overrode the host's will and compelled them to attack the objects of their affection, as well as display an intense fear of men. Those wielding the Violet light may show others their destined loves via a Star Sapphire they possess, and create constructs out of Star Sapphire crystals as well as energy.

Black/Death
Black is the color of the dead and emotionless. It is the color of the Black Lantern Corps. Black, technically not a color but more an absence of color and light, does not appear on the spectrum itself for this reason, as the Emotional Spectrum is a light based energy classification. Those dead or once dead are capable of becoming Black Lanterns.

Lantern Corps

White Lantern Corps
Emotion: Life (combination of all light and emotion).
Base of Operations: Earth (Only because it's Kyle Rayner's home planet).
About: The White Lantern Corps. appeared near the end of the Blackest Night, after Thaal Sinestro, who had absorbed the Entity of Life, had the Entity removed from him. No sooner had this happened, then Hal Jordan absorbed it himself, and spread its power over a number of earth's super heroes, some of them Black Lanterns, thus resurrecting them (This included Kid Flash, Superman, Superboy, Green Arrow, Donna Troy, Ice, and Animal Man, as Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, and Wonder Woman, had all become other Lanterns before hand). With their combined powers, they defeated the Herald of Death, Black Hand, thus allowing the Indigo Tribe to take custody of him, and defeated Nekron, Lord of the Unliving. The White Lantern Corps disbanded soon after this, as the Life Entity vanished. Kyle Rayner later became the universe's only White Lantern after utilizing a glitch in his Green Lantern ring in order to tap into and master the other emotions of the spectrum.
While combating Oblivion, Kyle and the Guardians separated the Life Equation out into 7 separate rings creating the White Lantern Corps.
Powers:
- Can Channel the light and abilities of all the other Corps except Black.
- Capable of purifying a Black Lantern and bringing them back to life.
- Is able to alter reality around the White Lantern. At this point that may have more to do with Kyle Rayner's fusion with the Life Equation.
Weaknesses:
- The White Ring seems very specific and has no problem abandoning someone it deems unworthy.
Leader: Kyle Rayner
Entity: The Entity
White Lantern Corps Oath:
There currently is no set oath.

Red Lantern Corps
Emotion: Rage
Base of Operations: Ysmault
About: Red is one of the energies far from the center, and represents the emotion of rage/anger. A person who has felt great rage is able to tap into the red light. However, controlling the red light also renders the heart useless and spoils the blood of the wielder. In addition, the red light has the most profound effect on the mind of the wielder of all the lights, and renders most users to nothing more or less than a rabid animal. The Red Lanterns were created by Atrocitus by mixing the science of harnessing light with ancient Blood Magic using blood from slaughtering 4 of the 5 Inversions.
Powers:
- Upon induction to the Corps, a new member's blood is violently expelled from their body and replaced with a red, plasma-like substance. Members of the corps can expel this substance from their body at will, causing severe burns.
- Extreme Strength driven by Rage.
- Human Red Lanterns are able to make solid light constructs. This ability can be passed to other Red Lanterns if they consume the blood of a Red Lantern capable of generating constructs.
Weaknesses:
- The Power Battery for their ring replaces their hearts and the red light of rage replaces their blood so if they ever remove their rings, they die unless they've completely given up their rage.
- Most Red Lanterns are also mindless brutes until they are immersed in the Blood Lake of Ysmault where they are forced to relive their traumas that led them to become a Red Lantern.
Leader: Guy Gardner, Formerly Atrocitus.
Entity: The Butcher
Red Lantern Corps Oath:
"With blood and rage of crimson red,
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,
Together with our hellish hate,
We'll burn you all--that is your fate!"

Orange - Agent Orange
Emotion: Avarice
Base of Operations: Okaara
About: Orange is another energy away from the center, and represents greed, capable of being harnessed by those whose greed knows no bounds. The sole bearer of the orange light is former Thieve's Guild member Larfleeze, also known as "Agent Orange", who draws upon greed to create constructs made of orange light with his power ring. He also possesses the ability to, which he uses to comprise his Orange Lantern Corps.
Powers:
- Steals the identities of people killed by the ring and transforms them into sentient, orange light constructs under the command of the Orange Lantern.
- Since the power doesn't need to be shared, the Orange Ring can be charged to 100,000%.
- Absorbs the energy of other Rings.
Weaknesses:
- Due to the nature of greed, only one being can wield the Orange Ring at once, any more would cause infighting among the Corps members, as they'd be unable to share the power.
- The Corps, itself are comprised of sentient constructs that, while resilient, are easily destroyed by Orange Light which can be channeled by the Indigo Tribe and White Lantern.
- Use of the Orange Light is highly addictive.
- Unable to drain power from Blue and Violet rings, as it cannot absorb hope, and is useless against love.
Leader: Larfleeze
Entity: Ophidian
Orange Lantern Oath:
"What's mine is mine and mine and mine.
And mine and mine and mine!
Not yours!"

Yellow - Sinestro Corps
Emotion: Fear
Base of Operations: Warworld
About: Yellow is a color close to the center, and represents the emotion of fear. A being capable of instilling great fear in others is capable of wielding this power. Sinestro was once considered the greatest Green Lantern of them all. After he was discharged and sentenced to the Antimatter Universe for abusing his power, Sinestro learned of a yellow light of terror that was being mined Qward. He had the weaponers forge the yellow light into a Central Power Battery and created the Sinestro Corps. Since then, Sinestro has drafter thousands of the most horrific, psychotic and sadistic beings in the universe to shore his golden power and burn all who oppose it.
Powers:
- Creates constructs based on the imagination of the wearer. It can also detect the fears of a person and generate constructs specific to those fears.
Weaknesses:
- Yellow constructs can be dispersed by the Blue Light of Hope.
- As the host of Parallax, Sinestro seems able to destroy any Yellow Lantern's ring at will.
Leader: Sinestro
Entity: Parallax
Sinestro Corps Oath:
"In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light.
Let those who try to stop what's right
Burn like my power Sinestro's might!"

Green Lantern Corps
Emotion: Willpower, the ability to overcome emotion.
Base of Operations: Mogo. Formerly Oa.
About: Green is the color in the center of the spectrum, and represents willpower. This color has the least amount of influence on the wielder, and can only be controlled by one who has an indomitable will that can overcome great fear. Billions of years ago, the self-appointed Guardians of the Universe recruited thousands of sentient beings from across the cosmos to join their intergalactic police force known as The Green Lantern Corps. Possessing the ability to overcome great fear, the Green Lanterns patrol their respective space sectors with courage, honor and dedication.
Powers:
- Generates constructs made of green light from their power rings. Constructs vary in complexity and intricacy, ranging from advanced suits of armor to ladders and architectural support devices.
Weaknesses:
- If the willpower of the user falters, the constructs will fail.
- Even after removing the Parallax impurity that caused it, new recruits and some veterans are still vulnerable to the yellow light of Fear.
Leader: Hal Jordan
Entity: Ion
Green Lantern Corps Oath:
"In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power--Green Lantern's light!"
Alpha Lantern Corps Version:
"In days of peace, in nights of war,
Obey the laws forever more.
Misconduct must be answered for,
Swear us the chosen--the Alpha Corps!"

Blue Lantern Corps
Emotion: Hope
Base of Operations: Mogo, Formerly Eplis and Odym.
About: Blue is a color close to the center, and represents the emotion of hope. The blue light is capable of being wielded by a being who can bring hope for the future to others. The blue light is the most powerful of the spectrum, but it is also the most difficult to wield and understand. Created by Ganthet and Sayd to bring hope to the future in the light of so much destruction, when good faces overwhelming odds. At the end of the war with the Sinestro Corps and after being exiled from the Guardians of the Universe for their individuality, Ganthet and Sayd started the Blue Lantern Corps by creating a Blue Power Ring out of their hope for the future. The Blue Lantern Power Rings are powered by the emotion of Hope. The Blue Lantern Corps recruitment is unique in that it takes a process of three days in which the being in question is picked by the most recently recruited lantern. Then they are taken to the Blue Lantern Headquarters on Odym. Once on Odym they are explained to, in great length what it means to wield the power of hope. They learn that it is a responsibility to give one's self to the universe. When they agree to the terms and conditions of wielding such power, The Guardians of Hope bestow the ring upon them.
Powers:
- Can manipulate their protective shield to generate simple constructs.
- Can charge and amplify other Corps' rings. It was originally believed that they could only charge Green Lantern Rings, but during the fall of Elpis, Brother Warth revealed that they could charge ANY colour.
Weaknesses:
- If the wielder loses Hope, the ring immediately abandons them.
- They have no offensive abilites of their own and rely on a Lantern from another Corps (preferably Green) to be effective.
Leader: Saint Walker. After the fall of Elpis and The Blue Lantern Corps, Saint Walker is currently the only Blue Lantern.
Entity: Adara
Blue Lantern Corps Oath:
"In fearful day, in raging night,
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
When all seems lost in the War of Light,
Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!"

Indigo Tribe
Emotion: Compassion
Base of Operations: Nok
About: Indigo is a color farther from the center, and represents the emotion of compassion. The Indigo light can be wielded by one with great compassion for other beings, used to heal the sick and wounded. However, compassion can also be forced upon a person, turning them into a slave that feels only the indigo emotion. A group of nomads formed by deceased Green Lantern Abin Sur and led by Iroque, also known as "Indigo-1". It was later revealed that Abin Sur created them as a means of reforming the worst criminals in the universe by forcing them to feel compassion for their victims and with the intention of creating an army to fight the Guardians of the Universe.
Powers:
- Able to absorb and channel the powers of other Corps.
- Short and Long Range Teleportation.
Weaknesses:
- The ring forces the wearer to feel compassion, overtaking their personality. If the ring is removed that person becomes the person they once were and since The Indigo Tribe is primarily the worst killers in the universe, that's a bad thing.
Leader: Indigo-1
Entity: Proselyte
Indigo Tribe Oath:
"Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur,
Natromo faan tornek wot ur.
Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur,
Taan lek lek nok--Formorrow Sur!"

Violet - Star Sapphires
Emotion: Love
Base of Operations: Zamaron
About: Violet is the other color furthest from the center, and represents the emotion of love. They used this power to create the Star Sapphires, a group of female warriors formed and led by the Zamarons, the Star Sapphires draw upon love in order to create constructs made of violet light with their power rings. Their constructs take the form of violet crystals that seek out love within its target's heart, and bombard the target with this love until they are freed or are converted into a member of the Star Sapphire Corps.
Powers:
- Create Crystalline constructs.
- The ring can reach into someone's heart and reveal their greatest love.
- Can generate a tether that will latch onto someone the Star Sapphire loves and bring them directly to that person.
Weaknesses:
- Because Love is on the extreme end of the emotional spectrum, the power can overwhelm and control the wielder.
- Inneffective on someone who is incapable of love or someone who is driven by love.
Leader: Queen of the Zamarons
Entity: The Predator
Star Sapphires Oath:
"For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in Blackest Night.
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all with violet light!"

Black Lantern Corps
Emotion: Death (absence of light and emotion)
Base of Operations: Death Zone
About: Black is the color of the dead and emotionless. It is the color of the Black Lantern Corps. Black, technically not a color but more an absence of color and light, does not appear on the spectrum itself for this reason, as the Emotional Spectrum is a light based energy classification. Those dead or once dead are capable of becoming Black Lanterns. An army of zombies formed by former Guardian Scar and led by the Lord of the Undead, Nekron, the Black Lanterns are composed of deceased people who are resurrected by a black power ring fueled by death itself. Members of the corps are chosen for their emotional connection to living people, and rise in order to elicit emotion from these people. The power ring enables the wearer to create constructs made of black light, often mimicking any powers or abilities their users had while living, as well as read the emotions of living beings as colors within the emotional spectrum. After being released by The Indigo Tribe, William Hand killed himself and became the only current Black Lantern.
Powers: Reanimation, Healing Factor/Regeneration, Energy Spectrum Assimilation, Aura Recognition, Infection (a bite from a Black Lantern can infect someone, kill them and turn them into a new Black Lantern)
Weaknesses:
- Black Lanterns are apparently unable to harm an individual who feels no emotion at all, such as Jonathan Crane.
- The light of Willpower combined with one or more different power rings can distrupt their powers.
- Black Lantern power rings are apparently unable to resurrect an individual who died in a state of peace with themselves.
Leader: "Black Hand" William Hand
Black Lantern Corps Oath:
"The Blackest Night falls from the skies,
The darkness grows as all light dies.
We crave your hearts and your demise,
By my black hand, the dead shall rise!"
