Circular Vision: What does it really do for you?

Considering the level of disagreement about this power's interpretation on another thread moving it here for proper discussion, provided anyone decides to actually respond as such to it. Namely in regards to Circular Vision and the notation that if you have the version that separates the eyes it grants you 1CS to Fighting.

Now first off if you moved the eyes apart you can't really get 360 degree vision because the shape of the head wouldn't let you see around all directions like that. If they were stalked to somehow allow it they wouldn't let you see around all directions all the time like say the light-funneling version. If you had eyes enough to make it work and retain stereoscopic vision (i.e. 3D vision with depth perception) like 4 pairs of eyes at the cardinal points how would this make you a better fighter? Going by the description of the Fighting rank nothing about that would or should make you an inherently better fighter and if it did then the bonus would apply to the light-warping version as well. Now I can see it giving say a bonus to Intuition checks or negate blindsiding or surprise penalties but I can't see how it would make you bettter at fighting people.

As far as the light-warping version goes I do think TLD is correct in the idea that it likely should have a power rank as it's a power that could be opposed by other powers and therefore requires a rank for opposed checks. Either way though it makes little sense one version of the power would provide bonuses while the other version wouldn't.

"A shared universe, like any fictional construct, hinges on suspension of disbelief. When continuity is tossed away, it tatters the construct. Undermines it."

Circular Vision with 2 eyes spanned out to the sides of the Head….

I’d say this ‘Circular’ vision should get [+1CS] to Defensive Actions Only… And is primarily used for Defensive ‘Agility’ FEATs…… Possibly functioning like a ‘Danger Sense’ or Radar.

It ‘possibly’ could function for Defensive ‘Fighting’ FEATs too…… But Only for Evasions, which utilize total avoidance or ‘Flinch’ Dodging; Not Evasions that utilize Counter Attacking.

Circular Vision with 3 or more eyes spanned out around the Head….

This could ‘probably’ gain [+1CS] to both Defensive and Attacking actions…. Which would be silly to even list out…. Just UP the ‘Fighting’ or ‘Agility’ to the next Level and describe the Autonomy as having ‘Vision’ in all directions at once….

Chances are 3 or more eyes will provide more functions than simple ‘Vision’ alone. These eyes ‘May’ provide enhanced balance, motor reflexes, and a more detailed picture of the world around you, Such as Spectrum Shift Vision…. Which could justify a permanent ‘Bump’ to the ‘Fighting’ or ‘Agility’….. But most likely Intuition…

With more than 3 Eyes You’d probably also have a specialized ‘Brain’ to process more sensory input…. Or some of the eyes provide a spectrum shift to perceive a broader range of ‘Light Waves’…. In this case I’d understand a [+1CS] in ‘Intuition’ or ‘Reasoning’ and having to ‘Switch’ it into that Vision Mode…..

Since the guy can’t be blind-sided I’d use it very much like a Danger Sense or Radar…. [+1CS] to Intuition under certain circumstances…. Or again, simply Bump the Intuition Rank.

3 or 4 eyes facing in the same direction could probably triangulate 3D range better…. But such a character probably wouldn’t need to Melee ‘Fight’…. To him, close range combat would just be ‘Stupid’…. He’d rely upon ‘Range’ and Distance…… I’d say ‘Agility’ gets a [+1CS] with this…… Unless he uses Range Attacks as easily as reaching out with his hands or feet……

I run some Characters who ‘Shoot’ and ‘Throw’ off the “Fighting” Rank… But the whole concept is the Character uses his range weapons as if he were engaged in Close Range Combat….

As for the light-warping Vision I’d say use it just like Multiple Eyes propped up on prehensile stalks or something… It provides both stereoscopic Vision and a 360-Degree Radar…. No [+CS].... But can't be blind sided...
