A world of pluses

A world of pluses

Doing writeups for my own game, and coming off a 2d6 system binge previously, I noticed I am adding more and more "pluses" rather than Rank shifts or powers.

One advantage to a plethora of pluses is that it allows a lot of customization without an equivalent large number of powers. It comes down to a more detailed or expanded Talent system, or and/or adding a lot f +1, +2, +3 type bonuses (or equivalent penalties), similar to all the OSR D&D +1 rings and +3 swords and so on. For example in my 2d6 system there are low quality, normal, high quality and royal or high tech quality items. One item can have any of those ratings with equivalent reduction or increase in price. A High Tech pistol would add say +3 CS to accuracy or damage (double cost for both) whereas a Saturday Night Special is a low quality one use pistol with a -1 CS to both accuracy and damage.

It allows a lot flexibility. Also allows a sort of +1 Longsword of Goblin Slaying sort of thing - Typical damage weapon Good damage against Goblins. And so on.
