Any one playing mutant charcters has surely become formiliar with the sentinels, those jolly giants who fly in blasting you just for being you. Their stats are rather inpressive through out their different series in the game we play, but when you watch the old cartoon series, you'll see most of them dropping with a single hit.

Cyclops will fire a narrow beam and cut their heads off, Storm blasts them with lightning, Wolverine cuts their leg off in one hit and then stabs them in the back for the kill, Magneto throws a handful of bolts at them, ect.

So when it comes to robots (NPC ones) is there a way to just get it over with insted of knocking them around for every last hit point? Could Cyclops spend 50 karma points for a a color shift when he rolls a bullseye on the force table to make it a kill insted by taking a head off? Storm makes sense as her lighting could score a kill result normally any ways.

What if you just want to cut off a limb? Could Wolverine roll some thing against the sentinel's RM material strength to take a arm off? We already have rules for attacking armor, he could make a attack against the Sentinel's armor directly to open a hole, allowing others to attack it's inner workings without body armor.

Thoughts, any one? This is some thing I've always wondered because looking at the typical Sentinel's stats, they'd win most fights with alot of the x-men one on one but, since when do Sentinels ever show up in small numbers?

Just by briefly looking at the Statistics posted here for all the different kinds of sentinels… The only thing they really got going for them is ‘Brute’ Strength and Sheer Size…… And Sheer ‘Size’ is often not the best thing to have since EVERY Character has some pretty nasty weaponry.

Most likely these Sentinels spend a lot of time just Swatting at the equivalent of ‘Cats’ and ‘Small Dogs’ from there perspective.

When was last time you caught a Little Kitty Cat by chasing it on foot….. And once you corner and seize the little Kitty…. Well, the little 10-Pound Cat can damn near rip your hand off…

Nimrod appears to be the ‘SITH’ Lord of the Sentinels with all his various ‘BEAMS’ of Death…. So most likely the whole sentinel entourage is set up for your team to just plow through them with little effort….

Then your team engages the First ‘BOSS’ (Nimrod) who stands 6 Feet Tall… Rather than 20 Feet Tall and your Team takes a ‘Real’ AZZ-KICKIN’….

During most RPG Gaming (and even Cartoons and Stories) the GM will have the minions ‘Drop’ with a Simple ‘RED’ FEAT…. So the X-Men can knock them out with 20, 30, 40, and 50 Points of Damage… Even though most of the Sentinels have over 200 HEALTH and about 30 to 40 Points of Armor…

As the plot goes along… They are ‘Cannon Fodder’

Well you can't directly translate the comics to the game (much like in the Robotech RPG it takes you sometimes many rounds of combat to defeat a Zentraedi or one of their walkers but in the anime they appear to fold at a single hit) in most cases. Most of those one-shot-on-kill scenes are a result of a need to keep the story progressing so they allow for a quick kill and get to the gathering of heroes (the Nightmares of Futures Past example with Cannonball however shows him punching through the chest which is where the central computers are, so it'd be a 'kill' result in game). In game there are rules for called shots that the GM can tweak to allow for removing limbs on things like robots (or living creatures for that matter), much like the Thing and Rogue ripping a Sentinel's head off to eliminate its sensors. There should be mention in the rulebooks or in the Q&A for Marvel that Dragon Magazine had specifically noting Wolverine making use of his claws on a red strength feat to remove a Sentinel's armor in order to be able to target it internals without armored protection.

"A shared universe, like any fictional construct, hinges on suspension of disbelief. When continuity is tossed away, it tatters the construct. Undermines it."
