I concur with this statement 100%, sir. And I would also have added one of these: the finger smiley

I use real profanity on here, but I don't think I could use enough.

Fox basically just said they are going to throw $100m down a hole with this film.

When they get the rights back, the Fantastic Four film Marvel makes will be the Citizen Kane/2001 Space Odyssey of comic book films.

So pretty much an 'in name only' deal it would seem, like Underdog. A film created like the unreleased one from the 90s just to keep the rights in their hands but with more effort to pretend like they're really trying even at all the money they're flushing to create it. Ah well, I wonder if Marvel has any sort of escape clauses in their contract for bad management of their IP that might get the rights back to them.

I know Marvel/Disney has had Sony in court several times over the recent years trying to get back rights to Spider-Man and Fantastic Four, the last ruling I saw pretty much stated there was nothing they could do as long as Sony kept turning out a movie under the license every few years. sad smiley

Marvel character film license

One world of adventure is never enough.

This type of garbage is whats going to ruin it for the good comic book movies. Suicide Squad, Sinister Six, shitty FF movies are just lame ways to try and make money, not at all about telling good stories. Doom reduced to some lame internet troll. WTF.

Aunt May gets her own movie?

This is exactly what I am talking about. This type of shit right here is going to kill superhero movies.

That sounds like just some idiotic bad-enough-as-a-rumor spite attempt to kill interest in superhero movies to try undercutting Disney/Marvel's success with their Cineverse. It sadly seems more and more like Fox and Sony both are determinedly spewing sour grapes.

Funny, I would of thought a film about an internet troll would be more popular on these boards... ;D

You know, I typically give the movies a pass with regard to differences in story and character, given that the conceit is that they take place in an alternate marvel universe. But Victor Von Doom as a mal-adjusted computer hacker is just going over the line.

The first movie version of Doom was a fairly lackluster depiction of the character but this is really taking things to a new low.

Here's the supposed synopsis of the movie that's been floating around lately.

Reed is a genius convenience store clerk with Ben. Reed's parents don't care about him, and Ben's dad is abusive. They're good friends and have each other's backs. Reed writes a paper for community college on teleportation that attracts the attention of Dr. Franklin Storm, CEO of the Baxter Building research center.

Storm has a son, Johnny, and an adoptive daughter, Sue, whose father, Storm's old partner, died in an experiment gone wrong. Johnny and Sue are party kids, and Sue is particularly disdainful of science. Reed and Sue don't get along at first.

Victor Doomashev is a anti-social Eastern European computer programmer and hacktivist who calls himself "Doom". He hates the 1%, particularly Storm, whom he claims corrupts science for profit.

Storm uses Reed's paper to complete some equations on a machine to access another dimension, the N-Zone. Reed invites Ben to watch the machine being turned on. Sue and Johnny are also there. Doom manages to hack into the Baxter Building's servers and use a computer virus to damage the machine, which explodes. Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben are exposed to otherwordly energy and become mutants with powers that they can't control.

Storm takes them to the Baxter Building and creates containment suits for their powers. They begin to train. Reed and Storm also begin developing a way to revert the accident. Sue blames Reed for everything, but they eventually become friends and then a couple. Ben can switch off his powers when he's not in danger. Johnny changes colors based on heat intensity, and Sue has some borderline telekinetic thing. Reed is pretty much Reed.

Doom finds out that the four have acquired powers and becomes angry it's not him, so he comes up with a plan to break into the Baxter Building to access the N-Zone through the rebuild machine. As a distraction, he reprograms a bunch of stolen military drones, the "Doombots", to attack the building. The four come together as a team for the first time and save people.

Doom activates the machine and gets technopathy powers or something, basically energy blasts and making machines obey to him, and a fight ensues. The machine goes critical, and, in order to prevent it from exploding and destroying the city, the four push into it and Storm shuts it off.

There's a countdown before it reaches critical mass. Inside the N-Zone, the four battle Doom again, and manage to leave him trapped there after he disfigures himself soaking up too much power. The Four manage to escape, but Ben gets the blunt of it to protect Reed and can't switch back.

The machine is destroyed, Doom is gone, the four have learned to work as a team, and Reed vows to find a cure for Ben. And it ends there.

If true, it sounds as horrible as they claimed.

Is there a source (or sources) you can cite for that info other than just "floating around"? Because I'd love to know that synopsis is accurate so I can feel justified in my hating this movie in advance. I mean, usually I complain and people tell me to wait and see and judge after... but if this is true, I think I can safely state my hatred without many people getting on my case about it. moody smiley

This has always been a possibility: Sony makes a movie so unprofitable with a Marvel property that it (Sony) considers the property "damaged". That is, Sony refuses to make another movie that renews it hold on the FF (because they think another movie will lose them money). With the bad press they've got with this film, if the final product turns out to be as bad as many suspect (and let's be honest, we in the fan crowd can be pretty harsh) it may revert back to Marvel eventually.

Then I guess the question is if it does bomb, and Marvel gets it back, will it be so bad as to make it toxic for the next 10+ years? Or could Marvel put it into Phase 3 and save it?

Who knows maybe it will be great and make a bajillion dollars. By the power of Greyskull I hope that synopsis is wrong and that's not the direction its going.

AMC Movie Talk where they reference FF Movie

The Doom talk starts around 16 mins in and around the 20 min mark one of them says he doesn't want to say too much cause he has insider info. Then goes on to complain about them once again giving Doom "weird electrical powers" that he got from going into the Negative Zone. So it sounds like at least some of this might actually be true. sad smiley

The worst part is it sounds so plausible because of the previous bad stuff you've seen around.
