Vin diesel was a big D&D player and wrote the introduction to an anniversary book on D &D.

Although I would be careful including writers , ( many worked in the gaming community then became fantasy writers ) the famous sci fi and fantasy writer Andre Norton wrote the 1st cross over to fantasy gaming land from playing an rpg ( Quag Keep ) after she became infatuated with the D&D , and she was old even then.

George R R Martin had a super hero campaign going ( champions or golden age of heroes not sure ) and co wrote the wild cards book series.

Steven Colbert was a gamer and rolled a D20 on a show after Gary gygax past away

George RR Martin played Superworld from Choasium. I believe the story goes that he was going through some downtime / writers block so he and a few friends got together to play Superworld. He was the GM. As a result of a few sessions he was inspired and began his Wild Cards superhero book series. The stats of his WC characters can be found in the Old Profiles at thiis web site. Superworld is driven by Chaosium's BRP engine. It's attack v parry/dodge system is tried and true.

Robin Williams was a die-hard Cyberpunk guy. So much that he sent his rep over to the Pondsmith's house to get a book they needed one night.

Margret Weiss and Tracy Hickman based several of their fantasy books on D&D campaigns and characters.
