Brief Introduction: When Malibu comics came out with their Ultraverse universe I immediatley became a fan. The year was 1993 and for all the crap that was going on in the world at that time it seems like a quaint and docile period of time compared to the "NEW NORMAL" that we live in today in the 21st century.

Around 1995-96 I began to convert Ultraverse characters for use in the MSH:RPG. I am proud to say that I did this prior to the knowledge that Marvel had designs on taking over Malibu Comic's properties. One day I read in Previews that there was going to be this wild crossover where heroes and villains of the Ultraverse would meet Thor and Loki from the Marvel Universe.

In those days I was much more innocent. I actually thought that this would be a good thing. And for the short term it was. The GODWHEEL mini-series wherein Thor and Loki cross into the Ultraverse was well done. Next thing you know Silver Surfer and Rune are duking it out...then HOLY SMOKES the freakin' INFINITY GEMS are "stolen" from the Marvel Universe and end up on Ultraverse Earth which leads into all sorts of weirdness.

But then somewhere along the line artists, writers, and creators were vanquished by big buisness and bottom lines and profit margins. Today what remains of the Ultraverse is back issue boxes where you can find #1's and Glow-in- the-Dark covers at 3 for a dollar. This of course is great if you really want to start checking this alternate universe out. The real tragedy is that so many of these characters were so well conceived and fun to know about.

COMMENTS:
Real Name is Tom Hawke and his identity is public.
Tom Hawke moved to Los Angeles from the small town of Sebastpool, California. Tom's parents were English, and Tom spent his youth growing up in England. His desire to find work on the silver screen drove him to America, where he ended up delivering pizzas to make a living--but then something changed.
One day during a casting session he was bombarded by the Jumpstart Effect and obtained invulnerability, ultra-strength and flight. But not even this dramatic event could effect his acting skills and he still did'nt get the part.
Eventually , Tom tracked down three others who had also gained ultrapowers, and the four formed the ill-fated Squad.
The Squad was the first "official" ultrateam. They were Hardcase, Forsa, Starburst, and DJ Blast. For the first six months they battled violent criminals with the sanction of the city officials. Nothing could stop them or s
o they thought. Then they were encountered by NM-E, a vertiable nanotech monster.

It started in Forsa's house and ended in tragedy. Hardcase attacked first and was thrown through the roof. Forsa threw NM-E in the same direction wiht his psionic powers. NM-E quickly crippled DJ Blast and ripped the limbs off of Forsa. Starburst was put into a coma.

Hardcase attempted one last attack, but DJ Blast warned him off and used all of his explosive energy to kill the creature. Unfortunatley it killed DJ Blast also.

Tom lost confidence in his abilities as a hero and it took him two years to get thru the grieving process.

Now his confidence is back. He has actually made a few Ultra-Action Movies. And even though a villian might shout at Hardcase " YOUR MOVIES SUCK!", Hardcase takes it in stride as he K.O.'s the goon and replies "Everybody's a critic",

Because he treasures his privacy so much that he bought a mobile home and put it in a secluded spot down by the river.

As Hardcase, actor Tom Hawke is an extremely dangerous individual. He has been involved in two separate intrusions that have resulted in thousands of dollars in damages to Alladin operations.
Hardcase seems to have a high degree of government paranoia and an apparent dislike for our organization in particular. This may be a problem in the future. Unfortunately Hawke is a public figure and we can't risk assassination at this time... END TRANSMISSION

*Regeneration: Incredible (40) {if using UPB rule then Warstrike regenerates 50 health in 1-1/2 minutes ( 15 turns ) which also = 3-1/3 health per turn.
*Precognition: Excellent rank with the following clarifications:
1) May be used once per day at full rank; each subsequent use decreases the rank by -1CS down to a minimum of Feeble.
2) The range of the precognition is severely handicapped. The Game Judge rolls 2d10. The result is the number of MINUTES that Warstrike can see into the future. The Game Judge must be well prepared when this character is involved in a scenario or campaign.
3) Warstrike sees a clear and vivid "picture" however, what he sees does not always make immediate sense to him.

Brandon Tark was just your average ordinary guy until he realized that he could see into the future several minutes in advance of an actual event. So he did what any other upstanding fine American would do...he took all of his life savings out of the bank and bought a one way ticket to Las Vegas!

After turning his small savings into countless millions, Tark wanted greater challenges.

He used his fortune to augment his body with wetware and created the persona of WARSTRIKE--gun for hire; no job too big or too dangerous.

Playboy by day and thrill-seeking mercenary for hire by night. But even assassins have honor, and none more so than him.

Why does he do it? Ecstasy. That's what Warstrikes abilities are to him. To feel his adrenaline pump through his body; to go "on the wire" and have his sixth sense kick in; to put himself in danger time and time again. Like an addiction, he places himself in one certain-death situation after the next only to feel the adrenaline surge and his ultrapowers take over. These are the things that Warstrike lives for...but is he controlling the powers, or are they controlling him?

Warstrike is a human contradiction. He loves big guns and Renaissance art. He's the civilized savage. Nothing means more to him than human life--and nothing means less.

WHAT THE PUBLIC KNOWS (or THE COVER STORY)

She's beautiful, she's multicultural, she's got legs that stop traffic, she's supposed to have Ultra powers that rank her right up there wiht Hardcase, and her smile has made Diet Zing cola the nation's top soft drink.
She's Choice , the living symbol of the Choice Corporation. A superwoman, the role model who can do it all.
She is the latest example of a new twist on an old idea--the corporate hero. But whereas in the past corporate heroes have been actors and athletic stars, this new breed of spokesperson is more than just a representative of a corporation...she's the PRODUCT of her corporation.
Choice seems modeled to thit every hotbutton a marketing department could imagine. She is the perfect public relations tool, the living embodiment of her parent corporation, inseperable from the world-wide business concerns she represents.
Yet while she is the most public of Ultrahumans, she remains strangely unknown. the parent corporation jealously guards the true identity or their most public spokesperson. Exactly where was the multicultural Choice born? Does she have a "real" name? What kind of contract must Choice Corp. offer to convince Choice to sign over her very identity to the corporate good? The only comment from Choice Corp.: " The Choice Corporation must guard sensitive proprietary information",. Indeed. Is this the wave of the future. WHAT CHOICE HERSELF KNOWS:

When she opened her eyes, she realized that she did not know who she was anymore. What's more, the strange men in the operating room had some control over her. She felt a sense of dread, for whatever deal she had made, it was one worthy of the devil.

They told her that her name was DAWN TURNER. They told her that she now had Ultra powers. They did not have to tell her that she no longer had free will; it seemed to be lost along with her memory.

Although her will was restrained, this did not prevent her from wanting to escape. All she had to do was plan...and wait.

She endorses everything from soft drinks to electric shavers. During the filming of one of her many Choice Toothpaste commercials she met the Ultra- powerhouse Hardcase. There was something good and right about meeting the actor turned hero who still acted in overbudgeted superhero movies.

Shortly thereafter a super-secret organization named Aladdin attempted to force Choice, Hardcase, and an Ultra-group called The Strangers to join with them. The Ultras rebelled forcing Aladdin to call the fight a draw. Choice as well as the others are now on Aladdin's watch list. And since the incident, Choice is beginning to get glimpses of her memory back.

She still earns money as Choice Corps spokesmodel, but now they know that she is beginning to understand the power that is at her command and so they are being a whole lot nicer these days.

Dawn Turner's real name is Amy Tran. She was a homeless teen who immigrated from Vietnam in hopes of finding her father. She was picked up off the streets and became part of the MK-Ultra experiment for Aladdin. Later she was chosen to become Bob Dixon's personalized ultra-spokesmodel for the Choice Corporation. Her memory was erased, and she was given ultrapowers.

Things were working out fine until repressed memories began to come back to her. Subconsciously she sought out Hardcase's help, NOT KNOWING THAT SHE HAD ONE-HALF OF STARBURST'S (Hardcase's comatose lover; see the History under the Hardcase entry) BRAIN AND BRAIN CELLS FROM FORSA (again see comments under the Hardcase entry, specifically the "Squad").

It is up to the Game Judge if he wants the player running Choice to have this knowledge. It is also up to the Judge if he wants to introduce the romantic sub-plot that develops between Choice and Hardcase.

PERSONAL COMMENTS: Choice is a powerful and interesting female superhero that can be a joy to run if the player so doing can handle the mystery and complications that surround her character.

" Thursday morning, 8:45 A.M.--just another workday in San Francisco...until a bolt from the blue struck the Powell Street cable car and changed the lives of all 59 paying customers! AND ME!

People on the cable car became the Strangers...I was just collateral damage--serious collateral damage. But it was the first strange step toward becoming THE NIGHT MAN!

The doctors could'nt remove the shrapnel without doing worse harm. Already my eyes would'nt dilate, making it hard to see in the daylight. My brain's sleep center was destroyed, so I never shut off--and I could "hear" evil thoughts!

What would you do? Tell yourself it a hallucination and walk away? Or would you know you had to do something--anything--to save the woman that a man I passed on the street "say"/think "SATURDAY NIGHT SHE DIES!---SCREAMING...!"

I think that most of us would do what I did. There are lots of people with Ultrapowers now, and I'm not one of them, but I took my damage and made it my strength! Add a costume and I became the man who cleans up at night-----

DETECT EVIL THOUGHTS AND INTENT @ Amazing rank: This power is a combination of Life Detection, Telepathy, Precognition, and Danger Sense. Night Man can "hear" the evil thought, know from whom it came, know for certain that the thought will become deed if not stopped, and if the evil intent is directed at him he can react as if he had combat sense. The power is both passive and active. The Game Judge decides when the player should roll a Power FEAT whenever Night Man is on patrol or simply walking down the street in his public identity.

NOCTURNAL: Johnny Domino does not ever need to sleep. Fortunately for Mr. Domino this will not ultimately drive him insane because the same affect responsible for eliminating his need for sleep protects him from sleep deprivation. His body does however need rest based upon his Endurance rank.

NIGHT VISION: Night Man sees in darkness as if it were a well-lit room or clear, sunny day. If encountering foes that use Darkforce powers, consider the rank of his Night Vision to be Incredible. HOWEVER, his vision in daylight is considered to be Poor.

EQUIPMENT: 1) Night Man has suction cups attached to his costume's knee areas and nestled wihtin the palm area of his gloves. These devices allow him to have Remarkable Wall Crawling.
2) Remarkable strength climbing cable with grappling hook. Can be used to restrain foes. If he resorts to using the hook as a weapon consider it an Edged Attack that can do Typical (6) damage, but pushed to Good (10) if he puts all of his muscle behind the attack.

HISTORY/COMMENTS:

Johnny Domino had a black belt in Aikido by the age of 14, but Aikido teaches avoidance of conflict, so Johnny never encountered true violence until an auto wreck drove a piece of metal into his brain. Aikido could'nt help him, but his will to live did--so, after recovering, he discovered that he could now sense impending evil, live without sleep, and see in the dark as if it were a clear day.
Behold, the most mysterious ultrahuman of all-----THE NIGHT MAN!

WHO HE IS AND HOW SHE CAME TO BE:

Mantra was once the eternal warrior, Lukasz--until his soul was reincarnated in a woman's body!
Although Lukasz was an expert warrior fighting for fifteen centuries in the service of the chaotic-good wizard Archimage, his life took a shocking reversal. Suddenly the mighty Lukasz' secret I.D. is Eden Blake, single mother of two.

The reason he is now a she is due to the outcome of a battle between Archimage (the Good) and his evil and more powerful brother, Boneyard (Necromancer Supreme).

For 1500 years these bros have been the principal figures in the struggle of good v. evil in their home dimension. Boneyard through his necromantic sorceries has been able to bestow immortality upon the knights loyal to him; Archimage reincarnates his knights.

Finally Archimage was by defeated Boneyard and made him his prisoner. All of the good knights were slaughtered before their liege could perform the necessary reincarnation rituals. All but his most valiant knight, Lukasz.

In desperation, Archimage played his last trump--to cast the proud male soul of Lukasz into a female body, rife with potential for mysticism. Archimage also placed arcane knowledge into Lukasz's mind. To further protect Lukasz, the woman he chose also lives in anohther dimension: ours.

Why? Archimage's thoughts are his own. And for reasons we may never know he needed to place Lukasz inside a female body.

Now calling himself Mantra (play on words/mystical expression; she is really a man, etc.,), she strives to perfect her sorcerous abilities before her enemies find her. Just as soon as she figures out how to wear high heels.

Known Powers:

SORCERY AS POWER SIMULATION (Monstrous if wearing Archimage's Armor; Amazing if not armored): The sorcery that Archimage imbued Mantra's mind with allows her to perform the following spells within a 6-second time frame. This makes her sorcery function similiarly as a Power Ring worn by certain heroes in yet another portion of the Multiverse.

*AIR CONTROL: She can MANipulate air and wind as ranged attack weapons & create air shields.
*FLIGHT: Mantra can attain Remarkable airspeed (15 areas = 225 mph) She may fly and continue to use other sorcerous powers. This flight is usable on others, permitting her to carry up to 7 people. Any more is subject to a Red Sorcery FEAT with the Game Judge setting the upper limit.
***Phasing: While in flight she can phase thru non-living objects (Remarkable or less material). No harm can come to the object that she phases thru, AND she is NOT immune to attacks due to this side effect of her flight spell. Others she has under her flight spell CANNOT phase.

*EARTH CONTROL: She can lift up to 50 tons of earth, and create weapons of earth (damage = material strength), create shields,and finally entrap opponents (mat.str = intensity of the hold).
*HEAT GENERATION (limited): She can create shields of flame or shoot flame blasts with a range of only one area.
*WATER CONTROL (limited): Mantra can form water into any desired shape (shields, battering rams) and can disperse water elementals.
* THE STANDARD MYSTIC BOLT, MYSTIC SHIELD,MYSTIC FORCE FIELD, & DETECT MAGIC: As per MSH rules.

Equipment:
Archimage managed to interdimensionally transport a mask and body armor to Mantra. She also has come into possesion of the Sword of Fangs. These three items appear to Mantra upon her willing them to do so. Magic...you either love it or hate it!!!

BODYARMOR: (1) Sorcery Boost: Mantra can cast her spells with Monstrous abiltiy and effects when she summons this armor to cover her body.

(2) Incredible (40) protection. This rating can be added to any personal protection spell she casts.
The material strength is Shift Y vs. it's own destruction.
The mask is treated the same as the armor.

(3) Unearthly ability to dimensional travel, however, limited to travel between the Earth dimension, Archimage's dimension, and the Godwheel.

SWORD OF FANGS: Incredible (40) edged damage and made of Shift-Y material for purposes of its own destruction and the ripping and tearing of other materials. With the flat of the blade, Mantra can do only Good (10) blunt damage.

Remember, Lukasz has been outright killing evil knights for 15 centuries. However, he has never been a cold-blooded murderer. The Sword of Fangs will only be used as a last resort, and if Mantra kills someone with it all Karma is lost (as per MSH rules)

Revealed Talents:
Martial Arts A, B, C and E. Any medievial type weaponry (+1CS). He is becomming a good mother.

Personal Comments: It takes one hell of a male roleplayer to run Mantra. Players under the age of 21 should probably not portray Mantra.
Female roleplayers need to remember that although Mantra is physically a female, she has been a 100% hetero-male for 1500 years and for a player to change that attitude would be unfair to what makes Mantra so interesting to run. Malibu's writters kept it clean, but she was attracted to females.
As a good & noble warrior at heart, she realized that the kind of relationship that would please her would only serve to complicate her life further. In addition to being charged with raising Eden Blake's two childern, there was the possibility that Lukasz would one day leave Eden's body and that Eden's "mystically hybernating" soul would return to it. Springing a surprise significant other upon Eden would not be proper. Afterall, she did not ask for this situation either.

His power stunts include creating tornadoes to carry objects.
He does not create sonic booms when he runs, even at his highest portrayed speeds.

An attacker needs a Red Ranged attack FEAT to hit Zip-Zap while he is moving at his tremendous speeds, and a Yellow Slugfest FEAT to hit him in melee. . .however,
He can substitute the Class 1000 Hyper-Speed for Fighting when Evading Slugfests and Grapples, and for Dodging when attempting to totally avoid Ranged attacks and Charge attacks.

Great stuff. I loved the Ultraverse and hated what Marvel ended up doing to it.

Will you be adding more characters to this list? Some villains would be nice.

Very nice. Did Nightman have a tazer in his own series of Malibu comics though? I recall him (or a clone, the miniseries was weird) using one in the Nightman/Gambit mini.

The Nightman in the Nightman/Gambit miniseries was a copy (but not an actual clone) of the original Nightman before he got some kind of power boost through Celtic magic, as I recall.

Real name: Eara. Physical Description: 5'6" 110# female with pasty white skin and long white hair. Eyes: Emerald green. Facial features: Similiar to mythological elves, including pointed ears. Dresses provocatively by most Earth-based civilization standards. Impressive physical condition; exotic looks and considered attractive. She is from the race of the Aerwa, an inter-dimensional race.

THE AERWA: They are the denizens of the Wold. While they are technologically advanced, they also have roots deep within magic--and this magic is the basis for their technology. The cities of the Aerwa are either entirely organic or carved from rock using magic, The Aerwan have powers of magici, including telepathy, foresight and psychometry. The Aerwans share their region of the Wold with the vile, warmongering Darkur. The two races are mortal enemies and have been since the earliest of recorded histories.

Her Story: During her rite of adolescence, Eara chose the path of a Rune mage. Progressing quickly, she became one of the champion mages of her people. Shadowmage often makes "spell cards". These are like large playing cards with a single, one-shot spell inscribed on it--anybody who can pronounce the runes (all Solution members are familiar with them) can trigger the spell.
The cards are stored with spell effects that range between Excellent and Remarkable, and if there is any duration involved the time is approx. 15 minutes.
She will make those if she anticipates a need to cast several simultaneous spells ( such as flight while invisible). She has made up cards for Solution members who are going on solo missions. She usually makes up 4 or 5 cards.

Once while on a solo mission, Dropkick had cards that had Explosion, Charm, Magic Shield, and something akin to the D&D spell "Feather Fall".

These rune cards help make The Solution members even more of a threat to the villians that they face.
The only down side is that if captured by a foe who understands Aerwan Rune Sign, the cards can be used against the ones who originally carried them.

Notes: Dropkick is a superb martial artist combatant. His chi blast is a result of wet-ware technology provided to him by his lover and leader of the Solution, Lela Cho (a.k.a. Tech). These implants also are what give him the aforementioned sensory powers.

History: Troy Wilde was kidnapped from his parents as an infant and since before he could walk was trained in the martial arts. The ones who kidnapped and trained him are unknown.
At the age of 27 he became a mercenary. He was introduced to Lela Cho, the heiress of the Hypersonics Corporation. She had been kicked out of power by a group named the Dragon Fang Triad.

Troy took Lela to a secret meeting place hidden by a pub in London, England. This location was a place where various Ultras met. It is there that Troy and Lela met and became friends with Shadowmage and eventually met and recruited Vurk (a.k.a. Outrage).

When Troy's eyes were crushed by the assassin named Casino, Troy agreed to let Lela pay for him a new set of eyes. He also agreed for other wet-ware enhancements.
He took the codename "Dropkick" and then the team called themselves The Solution.

Roleplaying Dropkick: He is a calm, experienced and well-rounded mercenary. His contacts range from the worlds of high finance to underworld loan sharks to other mercenaries and some low-level occultists.
He can be quite the knight in shining armor. He will do a freebie , ala "The Equalizer" for innocent people particularly if children are involved.
He will take brutal revenge against anyone who mistreats a child.

He is relaxed and easy going and extremely helpful. He can however act extremely macho if needed for intimidating someone for information.

VURK (a.K.a. OUTRAGE)

Vurk was one of the greatest spies of his native dimension, The Wold. When Vurk was double-crossed and forced to kill a ranking officer in the Darkurian army, he became a hunted man. Forced to flee to Earth, he became a drifter and occasional criminal. His luck took a turn for the better when he saw an ad for a trouble-shooter at the mysterious Darke Shoppe in London. Filling the need, he met Lela Cho along the way and became a charter member of The Solution.

Vurk is the "relaxed" form of Outrage, and his human appearance is very deceptive. Vurk is much stronger than an ordinary man and has heightened senses. As a member of the violent and mysterious Darkurian race, Vurk has a hot temper and a love of action. Whenever he deems it necessary he morphs into his Outrage form.

The Darkurian Race from The Wold:

The Darkur are inhabitants of the Wold. They are black magic oriented and are an altogether warlike and sadistic race. They are ruled by King Q'Zon , who is both ferocious and regal. The Darkur have two physical forms, the first is the relaxed state. In this form, they appear very human. In their action state, they transform into hideous forms. The Darkur live to kill and conquer and are mortal enemies with the Wold's other dominant race, The Aerwa.

Vurks friendship with Shadowmage (Eara, a Aerwan):

Earth has provided Vurk and Eara the neutral territory that they both needed to nurture a truce and trust.
They are excellent allies and teammates. They demonstrate something that both of their perspective races back in The Wold absolutely detest: Peace between the two races.

Hi Ty, I double checked and you are correct regarding FASERIPS & POWERS. FOR Electocute, Grenade, Zip-Zap, Llady Killer, Yrial & Spectral! I have an alternate Electocute and alternate FASERIP for Atom Bob tomorrow. Long story short: I have ring binder loaded with Ultaverse characters. Yous got mixed with mine. When I read your post I looked at the character sheets. I noticed two Electrocutes & two Atom Bobs. MEA CULPA. We cool?
