I believe the only way any Eternal can ever be "killed" is if you disintegrate them and scatter their atoms and molecules so that they cannot reform. It's the only method I ever encountered in the comics where an Eternal would face a final death. This applies to all Eternals, not just Thanos of Titan.

Thanos has an added measure of immortality in the fact that he is barred from the realm of death... but scattering his atoms should keep him from existing in the physical plane whether his soul lingers on or not.

As far as the upcoming MCU films, I wouldn't bother hazarding a guess. The whole affair is far off course from the way it happened in the comics.
