Working on another character: Real Life hasn't left me much time, but here's the initial idea. Zeus, the Olympian god and the ultimate "love 'em and leave 'em" type, didn't stop his philandering after worship of the Olympians died out. During the second century he spotted a hot Roman lass, and you know the rest of this story.

Born of Zeus and a mortal, The character is half-brother to Herculaes and Ares. However, he inherited little of his Olympian heritage, having little power outside of being extremely difficult to kill . So, he has wandered the world, experiencing its highs and lows. He is a dangerous warrior as well as a treasure trove of information due merely to his having nearly two millenium of experience.

I've got the tentative stats and an outline of his bio. Once I get some more time I'll do a full writeup, but for now here's the initial pic

Ok, not much free time but I managed enough to get some writing done. This was done using the points buy method, 400CP in total. Yes, I gamed some aspects because of the idea I had in mind. As you'll see this is not an overpowering character despite being very difficult to kill. In short, this is a character in which the story is more important than just the combats.

Identity: Outsider
Real name: Cassius Octavianus Petronius
Group: Independent
Origen of Powers: Induced mutation (imbued by Zeus)
Citizenship: Roman Citizen,current status undefined
Occupation: currently Vagabond, formerly sell-sword, soldier and engineer

Appearance: It has been mentioned by those very few in the know how much Cassius Octavianus resembles his half-brother Hercules. The features of both are quite similar, the main difference being Cassius' decidedly italian features. Although he inherited much less from his Olympian side than Hercules, He still won the genetic lottery and looks to be in his mid 20s. With his tall and powerful build Cassius was an imposing figure back among romans, although less so in modern times. He is still someone who stands out in almost any crowd; his presence can fill a room, always proud and self-confident but without the brash arrogance of his brother Hercules.

Talents:
Archeology, Language: Simply having lived nearly two millenia gives Cassius an expertise of history and archeology unmatched by any university anywhere. Likewise, while many believe that Cassius is a native speaker of English, his mother tongue is actually vernacular Latin and was originally educated in Greek. He has been speaking English now for nearly three centuries, and multiple tongues and dialects before that.

Engineering, Repair/Tinker: Although lacking the raw aptitude of Reed Richards or Tony Stark, Cassius is without a doubt the most experienced engineer on earth. With over nineteen centuries of experience he designed and built balistae for the legions of Rome, he built mills and chapels in the Middle Ages, and various steam powered mechanisms in Victorian England. Reed Richards, although not a believer in Greek philosophy, has stated that the sheer volume of knowledge possessed by Cassius is more valuable than all the gold stored in Fort Knox.

Weapon Master, Wrestling, Martial Arts B,C: Cassius was trained in the tools of war by the legions of Rome, and this is reinforced by centuries of first-hand experience; even today he disdains firearms, preferring a good blade instead. In addition, his patrician origin included training in Pankration, the ancient Greek art of unarmed combat.

Contacts:
Thor: Over the course of so many centuries of life Cassius has encountered countless individuals of all types. He has known Thor Odinson for over one thousand years, and they maintain mutual respect and infrequent contact. As a result of this friendship Cassius is known to the Avengers, although they could not be said to be on good terms. Tony Stark dismissed him from the outset, with wisecracks such as "Maximus Lebowsky" and "There can be only one dude." Although Cassius struck a chord with Capitain America as a fellow lost soul from another time, Steve Rogers recommended against an invitation to join the Avengers, believing him to be unreliable at best and a loose cannon at worst.

Silver Surfer: Cassius' friendship with Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer, is more recent. The two share an awareness of the limitless potential of the cosmos, and their ability to percieve its infinity leads to lively conversations and sometimes even debates. Reed Richards once tried to participate in one of these discussions, but quickly gave up in frustration. He later claimed that it was like being back in the university and trying to have a conversation with a pair of drunken art majors. Richards has likewise completely desisted from soliciting technical advice from Cassius, who claimed that Richard's work was lacking Golden Ratios and Aretê in the design, nor did it respect the sacred Geometry.

Cassius also has his share of enemies, the most notable being Nathaniel Essex, neé Mister Sinister. Although Essex has acknowledged that Cassius was right all along, he still blames him for his expulsion from the Royal Society. However, Essex has made no attempts against the roman, claiming on more than one occasion that petty emotions such as resentment and revenge have no place in the mind of a scientist. Not so in the case of Victor Creed, the infamous Sabretooth. Creed has never forgotten how easily he was manhandled by Cassius and still hungers for a chance at revenge. His relations with the Olympian side of the family are scarcely better. His half-brother Hercules knows Cassius, but like their other half-brother Ares is not close. The two genrally dismiss Cassius as Zeus' "roman bastard." He has never, even with his cosmic awareness, been able to find out why Pluto refused him entry to the realm of the dead.

Powers:
Immortality: as the son of Zeus Cassius recieved a spark of Zeus' power upon his first "death." Since then he no longer ages and can never truly die, although he can be and frequently is injured. Although immortal Cassius has no special regenerative ability and heals at the speed of any mortal without external assistance. interestingly, unlike the true Olympians Cassius does not need to consume Olympian Ambrosia to maintain his immortality.

Invulnerability: Cassius possesses Cl1000 resistance to Fire & Heat, Cold, Electricity, Radiation, Corrosives, Toxins, Diseases, Emotion & Mental Attacks, and Magical Attacks. In spite of his impressive resistance Cassius has no special resistance to physical damage. He can still be stabbed and punched in the face.

Cosmic Awareness: RM(26) The source, many say, of Cassius' seemingly near-insane behaviour, He in in tune with the universe. Cassius can sense the patterns and flows of reality, and can tap into those vast reserves of knowledge. His relatively low skill level is more of an indication of the difficulty in sorting out the cascade of information and focusing on specific details. Over time he has developed meditative techniques that help focus his cosmic perceptions, but this also means that it can take more time to find specific information. His ability to sense an opponent's weak points makes him a formidable combatant.

Background:
Born in 76 AD, Cassius Octavianus Petronius was yet another of the God Zeus' indiscretions. The ultimate "love 'em and leave 'em" type of guy, Zeus saw how Rome had conquered and assimilated his beloved Greece and followed mortal affairs to a limited extent. One day he spotted a young and beautiful roman wife whose husband was away on one of Rome's military campaigns. Assuming the form of her husband, Zeus seduced the young lady. After having his pleasures with her, Zeus went back to Olympus and gave her little though until much later. Meanwhile, the now-pregnant woman recieved word shortly thereafter that her husband had died in battle before. Believing to have recieved a divine gift she raised Cassius and his older brother as proper roman patricians. While his older brother inherited the family estate Cassius entered the military. As a centurion He participated in Trajan's Dacian campaign and fought in the initial battles. At the second battle of Tapae however, Cassius fell in battle during the Dacian counterattack. It seemed that was the end.

But it was only the beginning. In a vision Cassius saw Pluto, god of the underworld, who told an astounded Cassius of his true parentage. The dread god informed the unfortunate centurion that he could not accept a son of Zeus in his realm. Still in shock that he had died and was now speaking with gods, Cassius then found himself with Zeus, known to the Roman as Jupiter. The ruler of Olympus informed his son that he could not allow a mortal into the realm of Gods. Zeus/Jupiter would not abandon his son, and gave him a spark of his own power. The last thing he saw was Zeus wishing his son well on his journey. Cassius then woke up, and found himself among a pile of corpses. The legion had believed him to have died and threw his body in a shallow grave with the other casualties. Cassius had attempted to rejoin his unit, but by the time he caught up with his former colleagues word had gotten out of demons posing as recently dead friends. Seeing the futility of resuming his former life Cassius began to wander the empire, settling in Alexandria. He spent over a century at the legendary Library of Alexandria; he has claimed to have read every single scroll and book in the library while he was there (late second/ early third century AD ). This continued until the sixth century: Cassius was in the Italian Alps shortly after the Gothic Wars where he and his group were attacked by a contingent of Lombards. His body would remain frozen in a glacier for the next two centuries.

An avalanche liberated his body. Finding himself recovered from his second "death" Cassius wandered the now-unfamiliar Europa and made his way through Germania. In the early tenth century Cassius was staying at a small village when a band of vikings attacked. Joining the villagers in defense of the village, Cassius found himself facing the leader of the viking warband, none other than Thor. The God of thunder was taken by surprise by the roman's unusual resistance and martial skill but still emerged victorious. Impressed by his opponent's bravery, Thor called off the attack and left the village with his band of vikings. The two warriors met again on several occasions during the Middle Ages, fighting together and becoming good friends over the many years.

Over the centuries Cassius found himself in Britannia. The Victorian period saw Cassius in London and a longtime member of the Royal Society of London. He was there when Dr. Natheniel Essex advocated controversial ideas. Cassius advised him "the Royal Society defends science that we can use. We can choose between this science and truth. Think carefully which side you place yourself on." Dr. Essex did not react well to this, and harbored a grudge ever since. While his fate is well known to all, Cassius decided to move on, and undertook the journey to the New World. There, like so many others, he began a new life. Cassius wandered the vast new continent; in the early twentieth century he was in the wilds of Canada and encountered a wild man known as "Logan." Before he could make contact, Logan was attacked and captured by his old colleague, Nathaniel Essex (now Mr.Sinister). Disappointed- but not especially surprised- by his old colleague's transformation Cassius decided to not get involved, but Essex's assisstant- Sabretooth- attacked and tried to kill him anyway in order to not leave any witnesses. The ancient roman surprised Creed and easily defeated him before moving on once more.

Living in the American southwest as a near hermit meditating and contemplating the cosmos for over fifty years, Cassius was visited by a strange alien. The silvery figure called himself Norrin Radd and said that he had sensed Cassius by his connection to the cosmos. Cassius became a friend of the Silver Surfer, and the two engaged in frequent discussions about philosophy, the cosmos, and other esoteric themes. In fact, it was the Silver Surfer who convinced him to return to society and reconnect to humanity. For the last twenty or so years Cassius has lived the life of a vagabond, traveling from place to place and lending his abilities in support of those in need.

Personality:
At this point Cassius is weary of the world. Having seen many lifetimes, empires rising and falling, and the impermanence of it all has left him detached from others. While he acts quickly and with determination when necessary Cassius is most often reserved and dispassionate with others. He knows that society, like so many times before, is entering collapse. This is why he is seemingly so blasé about nearly everything: Cassius knows that it is all coming to an end, and the beginning of something else. His decades of contemplation in the Southwestern desert did much to renew his spirit, even if it made him seem borderline insane to some.
