A World Without Heroes, Is A World Without Hope! © 2001, 2024
An article on io9 pointed out that, while Mjolnir being sentient/sapient may be new, the ability to change itself into a humanoid form isn't that far from what it's done before.
We've had one of Stark's armor become sapient (though that was really Ultron programming), now Mjolnir, what next, Cap getting an AI for his shield?

I wonder if Phantasm: Ravager (the fifth & final installment, due out next month) will show any new abilities for the Tall Man (RIP Angus Scrimm) or the Sentinels? The trailer seemed to show a gigantic Sentinel Sphere -- one capable of leveling skyscrapers with its energy beam! -- but is that a Sentinel, or one of the Tall Man's otherdimensional masters?

So one of the things I did while running the Freedom City Play-by-Post board was make a thread with sample starting characters. (Many of the Moderators, and some of the top players, did the same.) I gave each a very basic background, enough to get an idea of how the character might've gotten their powers and why they're a hero, but with enough room that a player could add their own spin and mak

I keep hearing good things about Miraculous Ladybug, but have yet to check it out.
I think I'd like Ultimate Spider-Man more if they stopped with the constant pausing/4th wall breaking.
One of my gripes about Avengers Assemble is the only ever show Hulk as Hulk, never as Banner. Which, y'know, is an important part of the character! But I've heard that the execs felt the target audience wasn't

In honor of the new Phantasm movie coming out (Phantasm: Ravager), how about The Tall Man and his minions, the Lurkers ("dwarves"), the Gravers (gasmask-wearing mooks), and the Sentinels (spheres)?

(The Ballad of) Sharknado
Shark!
Shark!
Shark!
Shark!
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go
Run away from the sharknado
It's your greatest foe, foe, foe
Don't wanna get eaten by the sharknado
By air, by land, by sea
I see that sharknado coming for me
I can't run, I can't hide
I just don't wanna die

Break and twist and you will shout
Those fish are gonna take you out

You could also pick two or three times and try to make something interesting from the combo (like the Power Combinations thing we did years ago on the old board).
For example, I just clicked twice and got Cryostasis (freezing thins to preserve them) and Psychic Aura (surrounding self in psychic energy). So, maybe the power manifests as a Bizarro-Phoenix, psychic energy with the cold of the void

Click here for a random power from the Superpower Wiki.
It's got powers not just from superhero comics, but all sorts of movies and tv shows, and even some anime and manga series.

No, no, just curious. If the Sorcerer Supreme is supposed to be the protector of the entire Earth Dimension, I'd think that surely some of them must have come from somewhere other than Earth, and be something other than Human. I think a Sorcerer Supreme from the Skrull (probably before the Dire Wraith split off) or Kree or some other alien race could be interesting, and could give an added reas

I appreciate the list, Necro, but I was looking more for non-human Sorcerers Supreme (Sorcerer Supremes?) native to the Earth dimension. Clea, Dormammu, Nightmare, et al. are SorSup's, yes, but of their own realms, not Earth.
I did not realize the MarvUniAppendix had that list, though. Thanks!

No, that is Ghost Rider, one from a 12 issue series that ran in 2014 (and will be getting a new series soon). The Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider drives a car (the "Hellcharger"), has a disabled younger brother, and does kill people, but only criminals. In the comics, he's not possessed by a demonic (or angelic) entity, but by the spirit of his Satan-worshiping serial killer uncle, Elias, which had (s

James White (1928-1999), author of the Sector General series (1957-1992). They're Medical Dramas IN SPACE, with dozens of alien races, most of which aren't remotely humanoid, and believably non-humanoid. He wanted to write stories where the dramatic tension wasn't driven by violence -- growing up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles made him sick of violence -- so he relied on epidemics and

(I'd debated adding this to Flying Tiger's thread on The Walking Dead and Karma loss, but decided it was a different enough topic to warrant it's own thread.)
So here's what I don't get about The Walking Dead, and something I'd really hoped the prequel series Fear the Walking Dead would go more into.
(For the most part I do like both shows, if nothing else than for the zombie effects.)

With the reveal that Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One in the Doctor Strange movie is actually Celtic, I wonder if they’ll say she’s a descendant of Merlin. (Or Nimue?)
Because in the 616 comic, Merlin was also the Sorcerer Supreme.
Marvel’s spokesperson said the Ancient One’s a title, but in the comics, it’s not, it’s just the nickname a 500+ year old Tibetan man went by. Sorcerer Supreme is a tit

Yeah, Stark's armors have probably had little actual iron in them for some time. (One of his recent suits was made form Antarctic Vibranium & Venom Symbiote biomatter!) But he's not going to rename himself with each new suit -- "Gold-Titanium Alloy Man" doesn't roll off the tongue so well.
On the other hand, Iron Man vol.5:no.24 (April 2014) introduced Stark's "Cold Iron Armor," made spec

Poor A:EMH. You died so that a less interesting show might live.
And it's especially odd that they made Falcon the rookie/audience surrogate. There are so many other characters they could've gone with!
Though I am happy that they recently added Kamala Khan there, because she is awesome.

Things that happened to Archeville (at Freedom City Play-by-Post) since posting this:
* Founded ArcheTech, a S.T.A.R. Labs-like chain of research labs, which focused on superhumans (helping them control their powers, find uses for their abilities, detain superpowered criminals) but could also act as shelters and resource distribution centers in case of emergencies (floods, alien attacks, etc.).

"Unaddressed and ignored?" Jubilee's still a vampire. She was feeding off Wolveirne (and later his clone, X-23/Laura), doing so allowed her to go out in the sun without bother & amped up her healing factor.
Her still being a vamp honestly surprises me, as I was sure they would've turned her back by now. The Secret Wars/Battleworld "this isn't a reboot, honest" would've been the perfect op

Also, I'm still boggling over how it was Clint who killed Banner (with the anti-Hulk arrow Banner gave to Clint).
Clint Barton, who, while leading the Thunderbolts, insisted that Abe Jenkins go back to jail for the murder he'd committed, because there was NO OTHER WAY he could repay his debt to society.

On the one hand, I’m all for Jen getting a new solo title. On the other hand, “light-hearted and in control of her powers” is a pretty core part of Walters; she’s generally one of the most well-adjusted characters in the MU.
If they show her struggling with anger and depression and such with proper gravitas, this could be great. If it’s just dark & grim & gritty for the sake of grimtda

Daredevil would be able to see through the Predator's cloak, so that's one advantage negated.
Could Daredevil evade the Predator's shoulder cannon blasts? Maybe. The throwing disk and harpoon, definitely. But larger area effect things, like the Pred's net, might give him more trouble.
When it comes down to hand-to-hand fighting, I can see it going either way. Matt's probably faster, but the

You know, Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and Guardians of the Galaxy. They're not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe per se, but are heavily based on it -- the GotG 'toon premiere was both a retelling of and continuation of the GotG movie -- to maintain synergy. (Which is why they canned Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.)
Anyone watching these?
