But with sufficient time to plan, Batman could beat God. There used to be an equation for how many BPUs (Bat Planning Units) it would take, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Yet he can't seem to clean up crime in Gotham City or plot out perfect containment of his mass-murdering rogues gallery. I mean if anyone needed a Phantom Zone Prison it's him. Heck it probably should be a standard form of criminal punishment like it was for Krypton. The only issue would be if it were classic Phantom Zone, since you wouldn't want rapists or other hard criminals who would eventually be released being able to enjoy perfect spying privileges on everyone to plot worse crimes when they get out.

You're thinking of real Batman, but I'm asking about fanboy Batman that can do anything.

Ah well I never think of fanboy Batman (must be why all the fanboys hate me since I talk about the real Batman instead of fanboy Batman).

If Batman could, with sufficient time to plan, beat God (or, for ease of discussion, The Presence), he would have by now. Moreover, he would have conquered Death by now as well and brought his parents back to life. Seeing as how that one moment is his defining characteristic and the thing which drives him, it must stand to reason that he has, in fact, attempted to do just that (beat The Presence) and, using his keen deductive intellect, determined that he could not do it and, therefore, became the Batman as the only other acceptable course.

Adam Strange, however, might be able to pull it off...

Perhaps he realized he could conquer death but the cost (not money) would be too high and thus has decided against it.

Not at all. I just hate the Chuck Norris memes and the fact that so many fans vehemently, unjokingly think that Batman could defeat anyone and anything. I'm not saying you do, Thrud... but there are many out there who seriously believe this.

I like Batman. I think he's cool as hell... but there's a reason why Darkseid is not considered a Batman villain. Bats fights characters like the Penguin, Joker and Bane, not Doomsday and Darkseid. There's only so far thinking and planning can go and Batman fanboys tend to grossly overexaggerate Batman's capabilities.

Midnighter vs. Batman.

Is there anyone in the Marvel Universe with Batman's reputation as a tactician/detective? I know of various detective types but none like him. There are people who use gadgets but it is his mind that seems to separate him apart. Moon Knight?

Moon Knight is Batman with a mystic background and less of the intellectual stuff. That's not to say he doesn't do the detective work, its just not his strong suit.

Batman, for three reasons. 1) Midnighter IS/was Batman, except he was (in the wildstorm verse) more batman than batman. 2) now that they're in the same verse, midnighter can't have, as his defining characteristic, being more batman than batman, so when/if they ever meet, midnighter must lose to maintain Batman's alpha male position. The same goes with any Apollo/Superman match ups down the line. 3) It is entirely possible for Midnighter to win this match up. It is probable, given his powerset, that Midnighter wins this match up. So, naturally, Batman wins hands down...cuz its cooler :p

Yeah Nick is a good choice. He has military and espionage skills so tactics and intelligence work in spades. He has access to all kinds of gadgets via shield and he has been around for a long time having a lot of experience.

Been kinda quiet around here so.

Given that so many characters use animals as themes, I thought it would interesting to try to figure out just who the Alpha is. In this contest consider any animal themed hero/villain but none with cosmic level powers like Squirel Girl or Captain Universe Spidey. Characters that use fantasy animals are allowed, as are general animal titles like Hank Mccoy's Beast. Now it's time for...

ANIMAL PLANET ARMAGEDDON!!

Use any you like but here are some possible choices to help get the ball rolling:

Spider-Man
The Tick
Lizard
Batman
Cheetah
Dr Octopus
Unicorn
Sabretooth
Snowbird
Tigershark
Dragonman
Peregrine
Hawkman
Antman
Gorilla Grodd
Blackcanary
Badger
Wolverine
Lionel
Mantis

Assume the character has no prior knowledge of his/her opponent.

I should start with the following match up.

Tigra vs Cheetah

Cat Woman vs Black Cat

Lionel vs Sabretooth

Black Panther vs Wildcat

Hell Cat vs Beast (catlike form)

White Tiger vs Puma

Okay then... what about titles? You know, like The Lion of Olympus?

Has Thor ever fought the Silver Surfer?
That would be an interesting contest of power.
Re: Battle Royal - The Official Versus Thread
October 31, 2013 07:06PM
I've never heard of Surfer and Thor fighting but from what I've gathered about the characters I'm thinking Silver Surfer's power cosmic seems to put him ahead, but Thor is a much better fighter with a serious weapon. I think if Thor got close enough to hammer the Surfer he'd take it, if the Surfer could keep his distance I'd say he'd win it.

Thor vs Surfer? This might be helpful.

[hero-envy.blogspot.com]

Looks like Thor by the numbers.
Normal humans - top rank excellent 20 fights
November 22, 2013 12:30PM
Oscar Wilde vs. Herman Melville

Adolph Hitler vs. John Garfield ( the actor )

In each others prime.

No weapons.
